Chapter Fifteen

Julian

My cell phone rang just as I was leaving my parent’s crib. Mara had left a few texts messages earlier that I didn’t answer. I needed her to have a bit of uncertainty so she would adjust her attitude toward me. I saw her name come across the screen. Against my better judgment I answered.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Julian, where are you?” she asked frantically.

“Headed home.” I answered nonchalantly.

“I really need to see you.” She sounded like she was crying.

“You ok?” I asked sitting up in my seat.

“No, I need to see you, please.” She pleaded.

“Alright, where are you?” I asked.

“Leaving Sandy Springs.” She stated. My first thought was who lives out in Sandy Springs.

“Alright meet me in downtown Atlanta. I’m on my way there now” I instructed.

“Ok.” She said. It was clear that she was crying from the sound of her voice. The second thought that ran through my mind was her dude put his hands on her. I would need to be careful. I didn’t need to be walking into someone else’s drama.

I pulled into a park outside of a bistro and waited for her to call me. Just as I started to second guess my actions my cell rang with her name displaying on the screen.

“I’m downtown where are you?” she asked. I gave her the directions to find me. She parked her car in front of mine and jumped out to get in my passenger side.

“What’s good?” I asked casually, until I saw the look on her face.

“I fucked up.” She blurted the words out. Looking distraught, which surprisingly turned me on.

“How?” I asked curiously.

“Today was my grandma’s birthday dinner and I invited my dad. My mom hates my dad but I needed answers. He helped kill my grandfather.” Her words came out rushed and a bit all over the place.

“Hold up. Your mom hates your dad but you invited him over to your grandma’s birthday dinner and how did he help kill your grandfather?” I asked for clarity.

“My mom’s dad committed suicide on the same day me and my twin was born. Tonight my father confessed to turn my grandpa in to be investigated for his finances which apparently helped my grandfather by pushing him over the edge. Now my mom hates me even more.” She started crying uncontrollably.

“Awww, come here. She doesn’t hate you but your timing is a bit bad.” I laughed lightly while pulling here into me. She rested her face into my neck while I rubbed her back.

After a few minutes she whispered into my neck.

“Why didn’t you call me all day?”

“I was helping my parents fix up their backyard. We’re having a family bar-b-que next week. I wanted to ask if you wanted to come with me.” I asked into her hair. She raised her head and looked me eye to eye. Damn this girl is fine. I thought to myself.

“You want me to come?” she asked.

“I asked didn’t I?” I answered sarcastically. She didn’t seem to notice. Instead she kissed me on the lips and answered yes into my mouth.
